Mr. Beast

Jimmy Donaldson, more commonly known as Mr. Beast on social media, is an American YouTube sensation known as the YouTube philanthropist. His YouTube channel, which he started as a preteen back in 2012, now has tens of millions of followers. His content often features attention-grabbing stunts like giving away thousands of dollars or reading the dictionary.

Jimmy Donaldson, more commonly known as Mr. Beast on social media, was born on May 7, 1998 in Kansas, the United States. Jimmy has an older brother named CJ, who owns the YouTube channel “MrBro” and posts similar content to Jimmy. His brother suffers from Crohn’s disease.

Growing up, Jimmy attended Greenville Christian Academy and later dropped out of college to pursue a full-time career working on YouTube.

As of September 2021, Jimmy, or Mr. Beast, has more than 11.3 million followers on Twitter, 68.4 million subscribers on YouTube, 13.4 million followers on Instagram and 19.6 million followers on TikTok.

Jimmy started posting to YouTube at a young age: when he was just 13 years old in 2012. At the time, he posted under the username “MrBeast600,” and his early content focused more on play videos to videos estimating the wealth of other YouTube stars. For many years, his videos never caught on and he was not popular.

All that changed in 2017, when Jimmy posted his “counting to 100,000” video, which garnered him tens of thousands of followers each day. The concept was simple: he counted to 100,000, which took him 40 hours. He had to speed up some parts to keep it under the 24 hour limit by YouTube. He followed it up with the video “Counting to 200,000 (Road to a Mil).”

Since then, Jimmy’s videos feature many attention-grabbing stunts. For example, he will often donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to people like Emmanuel Acevedo, or he will watch paint dry or try to break glass with hundreds of megaphones. Jimmy has built his YouTube page into one with tens of millions of followers, and he’s known as the YouTube philanthropist; he’s given away more than one million dollars to people.

Jimmy has one of the top 20 most-subscribed-to YouTube channels on the platform. His channel now has over 12.3 trillion lifetime views.

In 2019, Jimmy collaborated with former NASA engineer and YouTuber Mark Rober on a collaborative fundraising project titled #TeamTrees. The pair wanted to raise more than $20 million for the Arbor Day Foundation by the start of 2020. The trees would then be planted no later than 2022. One tree would equal one dollar of money raised.

The series caught on, and many popular YouTube stars like Marshmell, iJustine, Ninja and Jacksepticeye all drew attention to the campaign. 24 hours into the project, the pair had raised $4 million already. Their goal for $20 million was surpassed in early December, weeks before the goal date. In May 2020, they raised $22 million. By 2020, trees had started to be planted in U.S. national parks.

Jimmy is managed by the Dallas-based talent management firm Night Media.

Jimmy is dating Instagram model Maddy Spidell.

In the past, Jimmy has come under fire for using homophobic slurs and comments across his social media channels. You can purchase Mr. Beast official merchandise, including apparel and more, through his online store.
