Threads, the Meta-owned social media platform, has rolled out a new feature that allows users to share their custom feeds with others. Meta says the move aims to enhance how users connect and discover content based on shared interests.
Custom feeds offer more flexibility in how users curate and explore feeds, which can now be made public and shared directly.
This feature marks the latest in a series of updates to Threads. Following recent rollouts like post scheduling and a new markup tool, which have enhanced user engagement and content creation, the addition of custom feed sharing further strengthens the platform's focus on personalization.
Threads also continues to evolve on the advertising front, with recent news that the app has taken the next step in monetizing the app by introducing Meta Ads.
What’s New with Custom Feed Sharing
Starting February 4th, users can share custom feeds they've created on Threads, making it easier to connect with others around specific topics or areas of interest.
With this update, users can now explore public feeds under a new "Feeds" tab on profiles, where they can also pin their favorite feeds for quick access. Sharing these feeds as public links or through direct messages allows users to share content that matters most to them, whether with close friends or a wider audience.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, posted on Threads, saying:
“This was a top request when custom feeds launched, so we’ve made sure creating and sharing feeds takes just a few steps and is easy for anyone.“
Custom feeds were first introduced in November 2023 as a way to help users organize and engage with content more effectively. Now, with the option to make these feeds public, users can engage in broader conversations on the platform, connecting with people who share similar interests.
How to Share Custom Feeds
The process to create and share custom feeds is simple.
First, users need to create a feed tailored to their interests. Once that’s done, they can make the feed public by tapping and holding it in the Threads app and selecting “Edit feeds.” A toggle option for “Public feed” allows users to make the feed shareable.
Share Custom Feeds
Once the feed is public, users can share it by tapping and holding the feed again, selecting “View feed,” and then using the quote icon to post a preview or the “Share feed” button to send the feed directly via a link or direct message.
Share Custom Feeds
This allows users to share custom feeds with anyone, whether they are already on Threads or not.
How Do Custom Feeds Impact User Interaction?
This feature is expected to help users find profiles and conversations that are more relevant to them, enhancing their experience on the platform. Custom feeds enable users to engage with content they care about while allowing them to organize their interests into curated timelines. Since Threads has made feeds public, it makes the discovery of content and conversions that much easier for users.
In particular, the introduction of the Feeds tab on profiles will make it easier for users to see what others are sharing and to join discussions that match their passions.
This could potentially create more meaningful interactions and help users stay informed on topics they care about, without having to sift through irrelevant content.
When Will Custom Feeds Be Available?
While the feature is being gradually rolled out, it may not be available to all users immediately. Depending on location and device, some users may not see the update right away. However, Threads has stated that the feature will be fully available to everyone in the near future.
A New Way to Connect and Share on Threads
Threads’ new custom feed sharing feature represents a step forward in the platform’s ongoing effort to compete with heavyweights like X. The feature allows users to share feeds based on their personal interests, making deeper connections and creating opportunities for more meaningful interactions.
Whether this feature becomes a key part of the user experience remains to be seen, but it certainly offers a new way to explore and share content on Threads.
