TikTok Whipped Coffee: All You Need to Know To Brew and Enjoy Yours:

What is TikTok Whipped Coffee?

If you’re a coffee-lover, there’s a good chance that you’ve sampled more than one kind of coffee beverage. When it comes to TikTok’s whipped coffee phenomenon, there’s a little more that makes it stand out from the rest. In its simplest form, whipped coffee is a combination of all the ingredients you would typically find in a basic cup of coffee. These include your choice of instant coffee, sugar, milk and water. The difference is in the quantities of each ingredient.

When mixed, whipped coffee creates a thick paste. And as you might have guessed by now, the name “whipped coffee” is due to the use of a whisk to blend the ingredients together.

Why is TikTok Whipped Coffee Trending?

There’s a lot that could be attributed to why whipped coffee is so popular today.  But if we’d have to put money on it, we’d argue it has something to do with everyone staying home. COVID-19 has led to more people spending more time indoors. And when people are confined to their homes, they become highly creative. In this case, that creativity gave birth to a new form of beverage, one that’s taken the world by storm.

But there’s more to why whipped coffee is trending. Coffee is a multi-billion dollar industry. In fact, it’s experienced strong and steady growth for over a decade. Growth is in the industry is also set to balloon to almost $6 billion by 2025, enough proof that people are crazy about coffee.

While there’s a lot that can be said about the ins and outs of the coffee industry, and the exploitation of farmers in third-world countries, overall, there are companies doing their best to spread the wealth associated with the product. For example, Hugh Jackman’s Laughing Man coffee was launched in 2011. The brand was inspired by Jackman’s visit to Ethiopia where he met a young coffee farmer striving to give his family a better life. Jackman, realising the need to help and that he could be a powerful catalyst, created a marketplace for the sale of coffee from farmers in developing countries to consumers in the U.S.

How to Make TikTok Whipped Coffee

Making whipped coffee is easy. Here’s what you’ll need to transform your standard cup of coffee ingredients into the now world-famous whipped coffee blend:

  • A medium-sized bowl
  • Two tablespoons of instant coffee
  • Two tablespoons of sugar (brown or white will do)
  • Two tablespoons of boiling water (essential)
  • A tablespoon (for stirring)
  • A whisk for whisking (essential)
  • 250 ml of milk
  • Ice blocks (essential)
  • A mug or glass of your choice

Here’s how to bring these ingredients together.

Step One: Add Your Ingredients

First, add the Two tablespoons of instant coffee to a bowl along with the two tablespoons of sugar two tablespoons of boiling water. The water must be boiling water to help the instant coffee and sugar dissolve.

Step Two: Stir it up

Next, use your tablespoon to mix the ingredients together in the bowl until they form a paste. You may be tempted to want to add more coffee or sugar to make it a little thicker, but don’t. You want to create your whipped coffee with just enough coffee and sugar to enjoy. Add more and it may be too strong or too sweet.

Step Three: Whisk

Once it’s clear that your ingredients are dissolved, use your whisk and begin to slowly mix the liquid into a paste. Whisking manually may take a while, so feel free to use an electric whisk and set the speed to low to avoid a mess. Keep whisking until your liquid turns to a light-brown (dependent on the type of instant coffee you are using) paste. The longer you whisk for, the firmer it will appear.

Step Four: Prep Your Drinking Vessel

Place your bowl with the paste aside and set up your drinking vessel. This is a cold beverage (hence the ice blocks). So, add your ice blocks to the vessel. Next, pour milk into your vessel but don’t fill it up completely. Pour around three-quarters of milk into your drinking vessel, leaving enough room to add the paste. Add your paste to the milk with ice blocks and gently stir to mix all the ingredients.

Step Five: Enjoy

Mix your cup for as long as you like. As this is a coffee-based beverage, it can be enjoyed with almost any meal or at any time when you would typically enjoy a cup of coffee.

Milk and Alternatives

The great thing about this recipe, and coffee in general, is that it can be enjoyed with all sorts of milk. From full cream to low fat and lactose-free, to soy and almond milk. While rice milk is a favorite for various other cold beverages, we recommend staying away from it for this one. Rice milk is generally more watery and that makes for a far less creamy cup of coffee. And given that milk is a key ingredient, and that adding ice blocks will lead to more water diluting your whipped coffee, rice milk could make the entire experience unpleasant.

If you opt for dairy alternatives, soy and almond milk will be perfect for you. They both offer great taste. A word of caution, this recipe comes with two tablespoons of sugar, so if you choose soy or almond milk, use unsweetened options. If, however, you choose to use sweetened options, you could always limit the amount of sugar you add or do away with it altogether for a more balanced taste.

Can You Use Filter Coffee?

While we haven’t come by any examples of filter whipped coffee, we think it would be a bit of a stretch. What makes this recipe work is the ability to whisk instant coffee granules with sugar and very little water. While you could prepare a strong concentration of filter coffee, the taste and flavor wouldn’t be the same.

What You Need to Know About Coffee

While coffee is loved the world over, it contains caffeine, an ingredient that most people don’t completely understand. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant and is also often referred to as a psychoactive drug. While legal, studies show that it has a range of effects on the human body when consumed in excess. These include increase mental alertness, increased heart rate, heartburn, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, confusion and irritability, to name a few.

How much caffeine is too much? That depends on your tolerance for caffeine tolerance level and body weight. According to Caffeine Informer, healthy adults should limit their caffeine intake to 300 mg - 400 mg a day. This is the equivalent of 5.2 shots of espresso or five Red Bull energy drinks. The site goes on to mention that this amount should not cause any adverse effects. If you’re still not certain about how much caffeine you can consume, try Caffeine Informers calculator to determine how much you can consume for your body weight.

How Much Caffeine is in TikTok Whipped Coffee?

TikTok whipped cream coffee includes two tablespoons of caffeine. On average, there is around 3,9 mg of caffeine in a tablespoon of instant coffee, but this value can differ depending on the brand and blend of coffee you use. That said, you can experiment with lower coffee quantities to find an amount of coffee and caffeine that agrees with you. But as with all things, practice a moderation.

 A Word on Sugar

Sugar is another main ingredient of the TikTok whipped coffee recipe. Like coffee, it should be used in moderation. According to research by PubMed, high-sugar diets can increase the risk of heart disease. While you’re likely to not drink whipped coffee all day, you also don’t have to include two tablespoons of sugar. As with your coffee measurements, try less sugar or substitute yours with a healthier alternative like Stevia or Splenda.

Wrapping up

Whipped coffee is definitely one to have. As a cold beverage, it embodies all the flavor coffee lovers want and expect. While the extra effort to whisk and prepare ingredients may be a little more than most would care for, the pay-off makes it worthwhile.
