- Disney and TikTok are creating an official pathway for creators to make short-form content using assets from hundreds of Disney properties, including Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and FX.
- Selected creator videos will appear on TikTok and inside Verts, Disney+'s vertical video feed, bringing creator content directly into Disney's owned streaming experience.
- The Disney Creator Ambassador Program adds structure to these relationships through greater visibility, exclusive events, rewards, and career development.
- For brands, the partnership shows how existing fan creativity can become a more organized marketing channel while the brand retains control over its IP and owned environments.
Fans have been creating content around Disney characters and stories for years. Edits, reactions, memes, theories, and trends have helped keep franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars circulating across social platforms long after the credits roll.
Now Disney wants to bring some of that creativity closer to home.
The Walt Disney Company and TikTok have struck a global partnership that will give participating creators access to assets from hundreds of Disney movies and shows. Creators will use those assets to produce short-form videos that can appear on TikTok, while selected content will also make its way onto Disney+.
A U.S. pilot will begin in the coming months, with other markets expected to follow.
For marketers, the significance goes beyond Disney adding creator videos to a streaming service. The partnership creates a formal path between Disney's intellectual property, the fans creating around it, TikTok's discovery engine, and Disney's own media environment.
Disney is effectively turning fan creativity into part of the marketing infrastructure surrounding its biggest franchises.
Disney Is Giving Fan Creativity an Official Role
Disney's franchises already generate enormous amounts of organic creator activity.
The new partnership gives some of that activity a direct relationship with the company behind the stories.
Participating TikTok creators will gain access to assets connected to Disney properties spanning Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX, and other parts of the company's portfolio.
That gives creators recognizable material to interpret for their own audiences while allowing Disney stories to travel through formats native to TikTok.
Asad Ayaz, Chief Marketing and Brand Officer at The Walt Disney Company, captured the thinking behind the partnership:
That philosophy changes the traditional relationship between entertainment companies and fan content.
A studio typically creates the entertainment product, markets it through official channels, and benefits from whatever conversation audiences generate around it.
Here, fan creativity becomes something Disney can actively support and distribute.
For brands, there's a useful lesson in that model. Some of the strongest marketing ideas can already exist within a community. Giving those people greater access to brand assets and a meaningful place to showcase what they create can turn organic enthusiasm into a much more structured marketing channel.
Creator Content Is Moving From TikTok Into Disney+
The most interesting part of the deal may be where selected videos ultimately end up.
Creator content will also appear within Verts, the vertical video feed Disney+ introduced earlier this year.
Verts gives Disney+ subscribers a scrolling short-form experience alongside the movies and television shows that traditionally define streaming services. Until now, that feed has featured Disney-produced content.
TikTok creators add a new layer.
Instead of opening Disney+ solely to choose a movie or series, viewers can browse creator videos inspired by the same franchises available elsewhere in the service. A creator's take on Marvel, Pixar, or Star Wars can therefore become another route toward discovering the underlying programming.

Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro described short-form video as part of creating a "more complete experience" for Disney+ and said the format could encourage people to spend more time on the service while discovering new shows.
There's considerable scale behind that ambition.
Disney+ has around 130 million subscribers globally. In the U.S., the service accounted for roughly 5% of television viewing time in May, according to Nielsen data.
The TikTok partnership connects that owned audience with creator-driven discovery.
The resulting journey could move from Disney IP to TikTok creator content and eventually back into Disney+, where the original movie or show is only a few taps away.
Disney Is Building Relationships With the Creators Behind the Fandom
The partnership also extends beyond content licensing and distribution.
Disney and TikTok are jointly establishing the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, designed to develop relationships with standout creators.

Participants can receive additional visibility, special rewards, access to exclusive events, and career development opportunities.
That structure matters.
Instead of treating creators purely as people who can generate attention around the next theatrical release or Disney+ premiere, Disney has an opportunity to cultivate a group of creators who understand its properties and repeatedly create around them.
TikTok Global Head of Entertainment Dawn Yang said creator expression helps extend the life of films and shows into conversations that fans continue to discover and share.
That's especially valuable for entertainment brands.
A movie has a release date. A creator community can keep talking about its characters, scenes, references, and cultural moments for months or years.
Formal creator relationships give Disney another way to sustain that activity between major releases.
Disney Gets Creator Creativity While Keeping Control of Its IP
Opening franchises such as Marvel and Star Wars to creator interpretation also raises an obvious question: how much control is Disney willing to give up?
The structure of the partnership provides part of the answer.
Disney+ will feature curated creator videos rather than operate as an unrestricted user-generated content feed. Participating creators will opt into the initiative, while the content appearing within Disney's streaming environment will be reviewed to fit its standards.
That gives Disney a middle ground.
Creators gain room to reinterpret familiar stories through the language of social media. Disney retains oversight of what eventually appears alongside its official programming.
It's particularly noteworthy given how valuable the company's intellectual property is.
Disney has recently experimented with other forms of participatory creation around its characters, including its previous arrangement with OpenAI that would have allowed people to create AI-generated videos featuring more than 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters.
The TikTok partnership takes a different route. Rather than centering generative technology, it centers an existing community of human creators and fans.
Fan Communities Are Becoming Part of the Marketing Infrastructure
The Disney-TikTok deal ultimately reflects a broader change in how brands can think about fandom.
Creator marketing traditionally starts with a brand deciding what it wants to promote and then finding creators who can carry that message to an audience.
Disney already has something many marketers spend years trying to create: communities actively making content about its products.
The opportunity is to give that activity more structure.
Disney supplies the stories and IP. Creators reinterpret them. TikTok provides discovery. Selected creator work then travels back into Disney's own platform, where it can generate further engagement with those same stories.
That's a much broader role for creator marketing than sponsored promotion.
It also gives brands an interesting question to consider.
When customers are already creating around your brand, the next growth opportunity may come from giving that creativity greater access, recognition, and distribution.
Disney's TikTok partnership is an ambitious attempt to do exactly that.
